Dr. King's mug shot is representative of the fact that while it is easy for us white people today to credit our belief in equality to agreeing with Dr. King, the majority of white people during his time actually jailed him for the things we say we agree with. Just because we're living in a different time doesn't mean everything has been resolved. This is my attempt as an artist to keep the discussion going, the stories open and the attempt to face the uncomfortable reality of our terrible history. The colors serve to celebrate life and get you to look closer.
