I enjoyed painting this view, and especially all the strata in the rocks. It comes from Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic coast in Dorset, UK. Most visitors flock to the circular cove that gives the place its name, or head the other way from the large carpark, over the hill to the rock arch of Durdle Door. This view though is Stairhole - a rock formation between the two, where a sloping wall of rock allows the sea in through a few holes (two are shown here). Its a popular spot for adventurous types who play in the water and climb on the rocks, and also with geology students, but on a rough day like this it can be deserted. Painted in oil on a 16x12 inch board
