An absinthe fountain is a reservoir for storing and dispensing ice water used for drinking absinthe. Like other paraphernalia associated with absinthe, they became widespread in the second half of the 19th century, when the problem of absintheism (absinthe alcoholism) of the urban lower classes arose. By using such exquisite objects, the bourgeoisie sought to emphasize their social status.
