In the gym that he works in, the motto is “Res Firma Mitescere Nescit” which means a firm resolve does not know how to weaken or as they said in the movie. It actually translates more accurately (and with comedic effect) as "once you get it up, keep it up." Late 1945 Allied propaganda leaflet dropped over China. Such leaflets informed Chinese citizens what an American pilot looked like, his uniform and so on. It also asked the Chinese to assist any downed flyer they might find in need of help.
