Apollo 7 circumnavigated Earth, Apollo 8 looped around the moon, Apollo's 9 & 10 tested the docking manouveres and lunar module in space. Apollo 11 was the first manned moon landing. Description: Apollo 13 Nasa's third attempt to land a man on the moon had to be aborted when the oxygen tanks in the service module exploded leaving the craft stranded in space. The incident was reported to Mission Control with the understated phrase: "Houston, We Have A Problem". The astronauts relocated into the Lunar Module, looped around the moon and then used the thrusters from the lunar module (intended only to descend to the moons surface), to bring them back home.
