The Ministry of Truth (Newspeak: Minitrue) is the ministry of propaganda. As with the other ministries in the novel, the name Ministry of Truth is a misnomer because in reality it serves the opposite: it is responsible for any necessary falsification of historical events. However, like the other ministries, the name is also apt because it decides what "truth" is in Oceania. As well as administering "truth", the ministry spreads a new language amongst the populace called Newspeak, in which, for example, "truth" is understood to mean statements like 2 + 2 = 5 when the situation warrants. In keeping with the concept of doublethink, the ministry is thus aptly named in that it creates/manufactures "truth" in the Newspeak sense of the word.

James Heddon came upon the idea for an artificial fishing lure in 1894 when he threw a stick he had whittled into a local lake known as Mill Pond and watched as a bass hit it. His original lures were frogs carved from broomsticks and, over the next several years he shared them with fellow fishing enthusiasts in his Dowagiac, Michigan community and used their feedback to further refine his designs. By 1900 he was selling his lures locally, but as word got out, he formalized things and founded the Heddon Company in 1902. . He continued to make every lure by hand in the Heddon family kitchen, but by 1904 he opened a new factory in Dowagiac. By 1950 the Heddon name was well known and the company would go on to other peripheral fishing gear.

Something strange happened in the last 15 years - "Big Brother" got semi-privatized, and everyone decided it was trendy. We've gone from fearing being watched to inviting it. Strange. Credit goes to my old friend Jeremy for the initial idea on this one.

The phrase ''Big Brother is watching you,'' which appears several times in the Nineteen Eighty-Four novel, has become a common shorthand for government surveillance of its people. It evokes the idea of being observed by a powerful but mysterious force over which one has no control.

I am a citizen of a dystopian society in the year 1984. I live in a world where freedom of thought and expression is suppressed by a totalitarian government. I am constantly monitored by the government and am expected to conform to its strict rules and regulations. I am constantly under the watchful eye of Big Brother and am expected to follow the Party's doctrine without question. I live in a world of fear, mistrust, and paranoia, where the government controls every aspect of my life.
