In the neighborhood of the old tanneries in Chania town (Crete island, Greece) called "Tabakaria" you will find a beautiful restaurant called "Thalassino Ageri" (it means "Sea breeze"). Having dinner surrounded by old industrial wrecks, might not sound like a very romantic choice, but, believe, once you get there you 'll change your mind! Not to mention the excellent sea food!

This is an image of the very top of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. It is a triumphal arch in Paris, located in the Place du Carrousel just behind Le Louvre. It was built between 1806 and 1808 to commemorate Napoleon's military victories of the previous year. It was designed the same year as its big brother (The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile at the far end of the Champs Élysées) with a Corinthian style architecture, and it is almost half the size of its big brother. It was not completed until 1836. The monument is 63 feet high, 75 feet wide, and 24 feet deep. The 21 feet high central arch is flanked by two smaller ones. This one is Pyli bridge, located about 1,5 km after Pyli town (Trikala, Thessaly, Greece) right beside the road that goes from Pyli to Elati. It was constructed on 1514 by St. Visarion and connects the banks of Portaikos river and two mountains, Itamos and Koziakas. It is 20 km far from Trikala city and until 1936 it was the only passage between the mountainous villages of Aspropotamos region and the plains of Trikala. Its arch has a width of 28,20 m., its height is 13,30 m and its total length is 65 m.

That was the view from my room in a beautiful cave hotel in Ayvali (Nevsehir, Cappadocia, Turkey). Ayvali is a small but beautiful village, very close to famous Sinassos (Mustafapasa) town. The hotel was located inside a small gorge, where a very old Greek-Orthodox Monastery used to be (yes, inside these "cavehouses" that you see in the photo). Kastelorizo (also known as “Meghisti”-Dodecanese, Greece) is a tiny, remote island on the edge of the Greek territory (“off the map”), very close to the southern Turkish coast, but it’s one of the best places in Greece for romantic holidays, a real “cocoon”, for those who seek some serenity!

Ioannina town, its lake (Pamvotis Lake) and the little island in the lake (in the foreground), one of the two inhabited lake islands in Greece (the other one is Aghios Achileios in Mikri Prespa lake) and one of the very few inhabited lake islands of the world. Ioannina is surely one of my Top-3 destinations in Greece, especially for winter vacations, not only because of the beauty of the town and the lake, but because around the town you can visit some of the most beautiful mountainous regions of Greece, such as Zagorohoria, Metsovo and Tzoumerka. This artwork, originally captured on film, depicts the aftermath of the Sun setting over Lake Huron. My vantage point is the beach at Bayfield, Ontario. Sunsets are a bit of a spectator sport in Bayfield. All along the cliffs and beaches that overlook the lake, people gather in the hope of seeing something splendid. It's the clouds that can create the spectacle, especially after the Sun has set. Here, the wispy clouds have turned black against the still vibrant sky, and the pier has become silhouetted against that same sky. The slow but ever-changing interplay of the light with the clouds set against the wonderful deep blue to red-orange gradient that is the sky, continues to provides not one image but a progression of awe.

Originally captured on slide film in 1986, this is an image of Atlantic City from what I think was the Playground pier. When uploading this image, I looked on Google Maps to see if I could identify the buildings seen in the image. The taller one on the right still appears to be there, but the tallish on the left seems to have gone. Such is the changing human landscape. It's also interesting that while the buildings are illuminated, Today, I suspect that modern LED lighting would now dominate, so creating a completely new understanding of what would have been seen in this scene.
