This Mayfly with the scientific name, 'Ephemerella subvaria', is most often imitated by the Dark Hendrickson. These are dark mayflies that are usually the first large mayfly hatch of the season. This classic pattern is popular year after year, and tied in various dark shades depending on the area. It is still used since it was originally tied in 1916, by Roy Steenrod, and remains very popular today.
