Description: During September 1919, Harry Sinclair restructured Sinclair Oil and Refining Corporation, Sinclair Gulf Corporation, and 26 other related entities into Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1932, this new entity was renamed Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1943, it was renamed Sinclair Oil Corporation. Near the beginning of the Great Depression, Sinclair sold the remaining interest in its pipeline subsidiary to Standard Oil Company (Indiana) for US$72.5 million (Standard Oil had purchased a 50% interest in the pipeline subsidiary in 1921). With these funds, including an additional US$33.5 million from an additional common stock issue, Sinclair retired several promissory notes and prepared to weather the Depression.
Description: The Northwest Refining Company from Cut Bank opened a new bulk plant in Shelby Montana, featuring Grizzly gasoline, which is widely accepted by motorists in northern Montana, and is made entirely from Montana crude oil. Location of the new plant is south of the railroad tracks, directly across from the Sullivan Hotel. A. J. Wilcox is the distributor of the gasoline. This company was sold to Carter Oil a subsidiary of Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey in 1944.

Founded during the '80s energy crisis to take advantage of domestic oil production, M-Tex takes center stage in the TV drama, Landman. The series follows Tommy Norris in the titular role as the guy who interacts and negotiates directly with landowners to acquire leases for the exploration and development of minerals or other energy sources on behalf of M-Tex.
