The name of this beautiful scenic waterfall is Island Gully Falls but it's often called Blue Hole & Irie Blue Hole because of the bright azure blue waters of the falls pool. I took the reference photo for this painting while viewing the Second Waterfall at Waterfall Gully. Waterfall Gully is located in the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia.

One of my favorite films of all time, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest was a beautiful animated 90’s film with an environmentalist message featuring fairies, animals and a gorgeously rendered Australian rainforest setting.

Snakes' vision is not particularly conspicuous (generally being better in the arboreal species and worse in the terrestrial species), which does not prevent movement detection. In addition to their eyes, some snakes (crotalineans - or dimple snakes - and pythons) have sensitive infrared receptors in deep grooves called pits that allow them to feel the heat emitted by their bodies. This is extremely useful in low light places. As snakes do not have external ears, hearing can only detect vibrations, but this sense is extremely well developed. Most snakes use their forked tongue to pick up scent particles in the air and send them to the so-called Jacobson's organ, located in their mouth, to examine them. Go save the forest!

These tiny fungi are quite rare - which is why they don't have a common name. I found this group at Robertson's Gully near Marysville in Victoria, Australia, back in the 1980s and took this photo on Kodachrome. This is a digital scan from the original. Sadly Robertson's Gully was completely burnt out in the 2009 fires - so these little beauties are even rarer now.

I always find ferns a difficult subject - long and narrow. This Fishbone Water Fern (Blechnum Nudum) stood up straight and presented itself for a photo! Found this one in Ferntree Gully National Park in Victoria, Australia, but they are quite common in damp woodlands.
