A hei matau is a stylized fish hook in Maori legend. It represents strength, fertility, prosperity, abundance and great respect of sea life. It used as a symbol of good luck and safety when traveling over water.

The Maori amulet Hei Matau got its name from traditional heirloom fish hooks and is worn as an amulet of protection, especially on water. The background was created to look like water with sunlight hitting it to reflect this property.

It is another Lunar New Year a.k.a Chinese New Year and this year is the year of the Ox!

This is my fun take on a popular wooden bee toy that nearly all New Zealand ( Kiwi ) children have when they are growing up. I have replaced the bees face with a stylized Hei Tiki design. Hei Tiki is an iconic Maori design. This bee toy is pulled along the floor by a string. As the wheels turn the wings spin.

HEI or Hey ה is a Hebrew Living Letter. It's the 5th letter of the Hebrew Alphabet and has the numerical value of 5. The pictograph for Hei ה looks like a man (priest) with his hands raised, and symbolically represents: 1) behold, 2) to look, 3) to show, or 4) to reveal. The Hebrew Mystics point to “the breath of His mouth” refers to the letter hei – the breath of the Spirit of the Living God outward.
