Description: Sojutsu : the art of fighting with a spear (Yari). Samurai warriors had to be fluent in fighting with many types of weapons beside katana. Yari, or (spear) and Naginata (halberd) allowed you to keep an opponent at distance where he could not use his sword. This drawing is inspired byt a manga by the famous 19th century artist Hokusai.
Description: Kendo (way of the sword) is a Japanese sword fighting martial art that was established sometime in the late 18th century. Much of Kendo is taken from Kenjutsu which was a popular way to practise the art of sword fighting amongst Samurai.
Description: Koryu bujutsu are Japanese martial arts developed by many generations of samurai for actual use on the battlefield. They are the ancestors of modern Judo, Aikido and Kendo. They include the use of many traditional weapons and open hand techniques. I recreated a sketch by the famous Japanese painter Hokusai.
