This is an image of a world we rarely closely examine; the world of lichens and barnacles. This and the following images have all been taken during a walk along one of the shorelines along the Oregon coast. Lichens are composites organism that arise from algae or cyanobacteria (or both) living among filaments of a fungus in a symbiotic relationship. They come in many different colors, sizes, and forms. They do not have roots that absorb water and nutrients as plants do, but like plants they produce their own food by photosynthesis using sunlight, carbon dioxide, water and minerals in their environment. Rock formations at Mount Borradaille, Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia. These rock formations have been carved out by the ocean in early times. The roots finding a path along the rocks are those of Rock Figs, a species of Ficus. This area is in the remote north, and is only accessed with a permit. Lichens are found in the cooler protected areas. Some Aboriginal rock art can be seen on the upper layer of rocks. Canon 6D, zoom lens. (Featured in the Power of Photography.)

As the river Ogwen meanders through the valley with its continuous flow... I wanted to capture some of the larger trees and just so happened to stumble upon this large boulder in the river that attracted my eye. This image was generated for me to practice my skills in both pre and post production, using a combination of natural filtration and the use of lightroom, which I am new to... I just liked the composition and wanted to add a touch of magenta to the foreground water to distinguish from the cloud background. As yet, I am not sure whether I will work with natural landscapes or synthetic filtered landscapes... I'm just experimenting!
