The Orca or Killer Whale is the guardian of the sea and the symbol of longevity. Orcas reside in North Pacific Waters and are known as “King of the Oceans”, “Great Spirit of the Sea” and “Ruler of the Underworld”. The Orca is the symbol of health, long life and wild untamed spirit. This totemic image in black, gold and red is a digital representation of traditional geometric design.

You can't go wrong with Northwest coast Haida art, it's been popular for decades. These First Nations designs are ideal for apparel and always look good. Formline is an indigenous art made by the First Nation people of Northwest coast of North America. The term formline is invented by Bill Holm. We use the word since 1965, but the art is many hundreds of years old. The idea is to create a flowing continuous line with increasing and decreasing thickness. We get negative spaces with a dominant black outline. The negative spaces are filled with formline type ornaments or elements. The main forms are ovoids, U forms and S forms. With these forms the artist composes a complete formline.

Built in 1939, in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, Totem House was originally opened as the Northwesters’ Arts and Crafts Shop. Located across from the Ballard Locks, the shop sold Native American arts and crafts to the earliest tourists of the Locks, attracted by the indigenous pole style architecture and Nuu-chah-nulth and Haida carved totems out front. In 1948, the authentic Native style building was taken over by a family, who opened up a fish ‘n chips restaurant that quickly became a favorite of locals and tourists alike. For nearly 62 years, visitors to the Ballard Locks would grab take out and cross the street to enjoy lunch at the Locks, but sadly, economic pressures forced the owners to shutter the restaurant in 2010.
