Neptune's Lampshade Number of views as of 18th March 2017 = 340. A groyne marker on the beach at Canford Cliffs, between Poole and Bournemouth (Dorset, England). Stone or wooden groynes are placed at regular intervals along the coastline here to interrupt the water flow and prevent excessive movement of sand, basically to stop the beach being washed away by the tides. At high tide, the groynes are normally submerged and markers are placed like this one to mark the ends of the structure. It's quite unusual for the tide to be so far out as to reveal the whole of the marker. Date: 29th September 2012.

Brownsea Sundown Number of views as of 18th October 2018 = 740. As the sun was setting over Poole, got this shot of Brownsea Island from my vantage point at Evening Hill on the Sandbanks Road. Brownsea is of course the birth place of Scouting, being the location of the experimental first Scout camp run by Lord Robert Baden-Powell for 20 boys of mixed social backgrounds in August 1907. *The Bramble Bush Bay* Number of views as of 19th June 2018 = 840. Otherwise known as the Sandbanks Chain Ferry. This car ferry operates across the entrance to Poole Harbour (Dorset, England) between Sandbanks and Shell Bay, cutting approximately 25 miles off a return journey between Bournemouth and Swanage. Operated by the Bournemouth-Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company, this diesel-hydraulic powered vessel came into service in 1994, becoming the 4th ferry to operate the route since 1923. Propulsion is achieved by drive wheels pulling along the chains. Its maximum capacity is 48 cars and the occasional double decker bus. Heathland Silhouette Number of views as of 8th March 2018 = 590. A sunset silhouette on Canford Heath, Poole, Dorset (England). Continually under threat from fire, the heathland is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is home to the smooth snake, sand lizard and Dartford warbler. Date: 6th November 2011.

Italian Garden, Compton Acres Number of views as of 17th July 2018 = 760. Another shot from a mini 'Bubble Meet' in May 2010 at Compton Acres in Poole, Dorset, England. This one features the Petrified Naked Skateboarding championships, though the competitors seem to have lost their wheels. When it comes to photography, it's well documented that the size of your equipment doesn't matter, an opinion probably shared by the chap on the left! To be fair, there had been a sharp frost earlier in the week. Laid out by T.W.Simpson in the 1920s, Compton Acres is claimed to be one of the finest privately owned gardens in Southern England. *Haven Hotel* Number of views as of 1st March 2018 = 860. The 4 star Haven Hotel overlooks Poole harbour entrance and is close to the Sandbanks ferry, near Poole, Dorset, England. Sandbanks beach has been awarded the 'European Blue Flag' for water quality and cleanliness and is also popular with water sports enthusiasts. The Sandbanks peninsula is said to be the fourth most expensive place to live on the planet. However, it is not immune to the credit crunch. A Little Choppy! Number of views as of 6th June 2018 = 460. Another shot from Boxing Day 2008. Taken from one of the groynes at Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset, England. Note: a groyne is a protective structure, normally built from stone or solid wood to prevent sand from washing away from a beach. A couple of kite surfers have braved the distinctly chilly waters for some exhilarating post-Christmas adventure! Luckily I managed to keep my feet dry on this occasion. Date: 26th December 2008.

Sunset over Brownsea Number of views as of 14th January 2018 = 800. The evening sun slips away over Brownsea, the largest of the islands in Poole Harbour, Dorset, England. Best known as the birthplace of Scouting, Lord Baden Powell held the inaugural Scout camp on the island in 1907. Reached by ferry from Poole Quay or Sandbanks, the island is now maintained by the National Trust and is open to visitors during the months of April through to September. The private jetties in the foreground, belong to some of the houses in Sandbanks 'Millionaire's Row', the 4th most expensive property location on the planet. Date: 5th July 2010.

Brownsea Castle Number of views as of 22nd April 2019 = 1540. The view that most people see on arrival at Brownsea Island, the largest of the eight islands within Poole Harbour, Dorset, England. The castle was built in the 16th century and was part of the south coast defence system put into place by King Henry VIII, along with Portland, Sandsfoot and Hurst. The castle was renovated during the 19th century and converted into an impressive private residence. Despite being badly damaged by fire in 1895, the castle was rebuilt and when the National Trust acquired the island in 1962, the castle was leased to the John Lewis partnership, who use it as a private hotel for employees and their families. Banks Road Number of views as of 8th April 2018 = 325. Apologies for lack of comments recently. Arrived back home yesterday after a few days away with friends for New Year, so had a bit of catching up to do! Here's a shot taken Boxing Day whilst out for a stroll at Sandbanks, near Poole, Dorset. Lovely day, lots of people out walking. There are normally lots of windsurfers down here too, but the tide was too far out that day! Date: 26th December 2008

At least they seem to be observing the current social distancing rules. Hope they took their trash home with them too! Green Island Number of views as of 16th April 2019 = 970. At 45 acres, Green Island is the third largest island in Poole Harbour (Dorset, England) after Brownsea and Furzey. The island is an Area of Natural Beauty, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area. It consists primarily of woodland, with some heathland, and its features include a private beach, private jetty and even a helipad. It is privately owned, the asking price from a few years ago being 2.5 million pounds. Plans were recently approved to build a six-bedroom carbon-neutral holiday home on the island, made from cedar logs and powered by solar panels. Unfortunately a fire in April 2012 severely damaged the building whilst it was still under construc...
