Ragwort T-Shirts

New range of Alphabet Illustrations based on the first words of Evelyn. Originally a project started for the Manx Gaelic Language.

I think this a some sort of hover fly, though I'm not entirely sure. It was was busy filling up on ragwort flower nectar.

Not something I've ever really noticed before until capturing one by accident on a cornflower a couple of years ago. The hover or flower fly suit the yellow background more though, despite it being the dreaded and unwelcome ragwort. My original artwork of a gothic fantasy fairy based on the Cinnabar moth and its foodplant the Ragwort. The beautiful lady has red wings covered in ragwort leaf patterns and her skirt has cinnabar moths and ragwort flowers on. The flowers are also on her black boots and around her neck in gold on her necklace. She has red streaks in her hir and a red bow and is wearing bright red lipstick. Makes a great gift for anyone who loves fantasy art, fairies and moths, goths and emos too.

This beautiful Red Admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) was photographed at QEII Country Park in Ashington Northumberland. The butterfly is resting on the flower heads of Common Ragwort (Senecio jacobaea) and enjoying the warm sunshine of late August.

'The Small Copper is a fast flying butterfly that, once settled, is unmistakable with its bright copper-coloured forewings. It is a widespread species and a familiar and welcome sight for many naturalists throughout the summer months. This butterfly occurs in discrete colonies throughout the British Isles, but is absent from mountainous areas and far north-west Scotland, the Outer Hebrides and Shetland.
