River Mersey T-Shirts

The "Royal Iris of the Mersey" with the iconic Liverpool waterfront in the background! This Mersey Ferry was originally the Birkenhead Ferry "Mountwood" launched in 1959, renamed and refurbished in 2001 "MV Royal Iris of the Mersey". The original Royal Iris is still registered with Lloyds and is berthed on the Thames near Woolwich. The Mountwood was used in the film "Ferry 'Cross The Mersey" and also appeared in the opening titles for the television series "The Liver Birds".

Liverpool is hosting Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine. The flag of Ukraine, represented by a yellow submersible beneath the blue waves of the Mersey.

This come from my trip last year to the coast around Liverpool, Formby and Southport. On this particular day I took the famous ferry across the Mersey, and walked the shore up to New Brighton, where the river Mersey mixes with the sea. Towards the end of that walk I found this spot where the docks opposite lined up for a pleasing arrangement. I've now turned my original photo into an oil painting on board 16 inches x 12 inches - capturing the light of a sunny September day shortly to be encroached on by cloud and rain.

Not what you would usually associate with a canal This is 'Royal Iris of The Mersey' one of two Mersey Ferries making the return journey from Salford Quays, down the Manchester Ship Canal. Picture taken at the point where the canal joins the River Mersey entering in to the Mersey Estuary. Royal Iris was built in 1959 and is owned by Merseytravel and operated by Mersey Ferries.

After having some success and many favourable comments on a previous Lighthouse image, "Safe Passage", I decided to look back into other shots I had taken on the same stormy day at Perch Rock on The River Mersey. I found this shot, removed some dockyards from the background and replaced them with a stormy sky. Then I added some textures and layers of mist and inserted the ship from another image taken on the same day. I didn't touch the waves, they were actually battering the lighthouse. I also lit up the lighthouse and added the beam of light. All in all, there are about 20 layers including textures and an Orton layer, all blended in Topaz and Nik Efex in CS6.
