A digital oil painting of St Mary's Church in the village of Cholsey, Oxfordshire, just south of the market town of Wallingford. The church has a long history, apparently being originally built as an abbey church by King Ethelred in about 986. It received a mention in the Domesday Book following the Norman Conquest and they extensively rebuilt it. The churchyard is famous as the last resting place of crime writer Agatha Christie who lived in Cholsey for the last 40 years of her life.

The Church of St Mary, East Quantoxhead, May 2021 The Grade 2 listed, Anglican church of St Mary, in the village of East Quantoxhead (Somerset, England) was built in the 14th century on the site of an earlier church building. The church is adjacent to the Court House, home to the lords of the manor. Restoration work took place in the 17th and 19th centuries. Date: 26th May 2021.

Looking over the churchyard to St Mary's, the parish church at Kintbury, West Berkshire. This lovely C12th Norman church stands in the centre of the village, and is not far from the Kennet and Avon Canal. Carry on walking down the hill here and you cross Vicarage Bridge over the waterway to join the towpath leading to the lock. Kintbury's nearest town is Newbury, the administrative centre for West Berkshire.

King David I of Scotland granted a charter for the establishment of the church in 1138. The church was built on the site of an older church and was consecrated in 1242. Following a fire in 1424, most of the present building dates from the mid 15th century, with extensive restorations in the 19th century. Parts of the Church of St Michael were brought into use as they were completed, and the church was completed in 1540. Built immediately to the south of Linlithgow Palace, the church was much favoured as a place of worship by Scottish Kings and Queens. Mary, Queen of Scots, was born in Linlithgow Palace on 8 December 1542 and was baptised in St Michael’s Church.

The church of St Mary sits squarely in the centre of the village of Kingclere in north Hampshire. It dates from about 1120-40 - its Norman origins being clearly seen in its square tower, cruciform plan and small round-headed windows. The circular staircase turret can also be seen in this view. The Church was, however, extensively rebuilt in the C19th - apparently to recreate it as it was in the C12th. The village can trace its history to King Alfred's time as it was mentioned in his will.

The parish church of St Mary in the riverside village of Streatley-on-Thames in Berkshire, England. It lies very near the river and is almost next to the bridge linking Streatley with Goring. The church dates from the 13th century but was largely rebuilt in the mid 1800s as it was becoming rather dilapidated. The parish church of St Mary the Virgin at Ipsden in Oxfordshire on the southern edge of the Chiltern Hills. The church overlooks the Thames Valley and is surrounded by farmland. Originally a small Saxon chapel, it was enlarged in the 12th century with stones from a nearby church which had fallen into disrepair. This image has been given a faded, vntage feel.

The Grade 1 listed Lady St. Mary Church (in the town of Wareham, Dorset, England) is built in the Norman Gothic style, but its origins go back a few centuries earlier to Saxon times. The church is the burial place of Beorhtric, the Saxon King of Wessex from AD 786 to 802. The town of Wareham is much older still, with evidence of human settlement dating back 11,000 years or more. East Brent is a small village located on the eastern edge of Brent Knoll, a hill that dominates the surrounding countryside.
