The old Cattle Jetty was built in 1879 to land cattle at the Point Nepean Quarantine station just inside Port Phillip Bay. Point Nepean marks the southern point of The Rip (the entrance to Port Phillip) and the most westerly point of the Mornington Peninsula, in Victoria, Australia.

The Cattle Jetty, Observation Point, Point Nepean, Portsea, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. Little remains of the Cattle Jetty, nor the associated stock quarantine station, that was added to the quarantine facilities at Point Nepean in 1879. Now just one section of the jetty remains and another section was washed away recently. The jetty is surrounded by drift wood that has been washed up around the structure. This morning some photographers told me that the second structure had recently been washed away, so i decided to go and check it out for myself.
