Although this is not a weeping angel from Dr. Who I have had many people tell me that it looks like it. The image is actually based on a statue in Vienna's Central Cemetery and makes for a great T-shirt design.

Somehow I’m not sure if this is an epic crossover or just a serious amount of inter-fandom confusion…but whatever it is, it’s now on a t-shirt!!

I'm Always All Right

I have been a fan of Doctor who since the 70s. Over the past few years i have done a series of Paintings from Space and time to pop art splat. This is part of the Pop Art series which is based on the swirl of the time vortex. The original painting that these images come from are much bigger and in a Wide screen style. To use these for T shirts etc I have cropped the design and modified them from my original paintings.

When Doctor Who returned to the television in 2005, we learned that the Doctor was the last time lord. At some point between the 8th Doctor and the 9th Doctor, the time war occurred. The time war was waged primarily between the Time Lords and the Daleks, both of which wanted to destroy the universe. The Doctor alludes to the fact that he destroyed his own people and the Daleks to save the universe. This little plot device, which was only alluded to once the new series was launched, provided key character attributes, which I believe played a significant role in the show's success - the Doctor was alone, the last of his kind, and it was the result of his own actions. One of the running themes in Doctor Who is the tendency to write in little moments that represent the actors' real personality. With David Tennant, they gave him an episode in Scotland so that he could speak with his real accent. With Matt Smith, they gave him a scene where he schooled everyone in a game of soccer, as Smith was nearly a professional footballer. Peter Capaldi used to play guitar and sing in a punk band back in the late 70s or early 80s. Hence, this awesome scene.

Yay Dr. Who! This episode scared me sooo much when I first saw it so it seems fitting to let it scare everyone else! Fun fact: This was the first scratchboard I ever did. I didn't have the correct tools at the time so I used a flat head screwdriver to draw this.

This my first digital painting in a few years. It was inspired by the climax in the 'Parting of the Ways' of Doctor Who Series One. I think this might be the beginning of a series on the Doctor's Companions. Rose was a slow burner in most regards. I didn't like her the first couple times I tried watching Doctor Who. But by the end of Season one, especially at this moment, I loved her. Now it's difficult to imagine Doctor Who without Rose.

It seems that every Whovian has "their" Doctor. This is usually their first Doctor or their favorite Doctor, or both. I don't like playing favorites. "My" Doctor is always the one I'm currently watching. But, be that as it may, the ninth Doctor introduced me to Doctor Who. I've told the story many times - I didn't like the show at first. I didn't hate it either. I just didn't find it very interesting for the first three to five episodes. On many levels, Doctor Who is sort of a slow burner, as there are a lot of strange things about the show, especially for an American. It wasn't until my third attempt on a weekend in 2012 when I was house-sitting and had nothing else to do but watch Netflix all day that I pushed through the first five ep...

A while back I realized that I only had a few paintings from the 1st series with the 9th Doctor, and I really do like that series a lot...it just hasn't inspired as many paintings. So I decided to remedy that. This wasn't taken from any scene, except the Tardis with Bad Wolf spray painted on the side. I started with the idea of a rose in the foreground and the Bad Wolf Tardis in the background. Everything else sort of sprang up from that. The "Little Red Riding Hood trotting through the forest" vibe wasn't intentional. In fact, it didn't occur to me until I uploaded this photo.

The Doctor is the doctor regardless of the actor portraying the time lord.

The Twelfth Doctor is an anomaly. We call him the 12th Doctor, but he's the 13th version of the Doctor. Also, Time Lord biology only allows them to regenerate 12 times, but he was technically the 13th regeneration. (The 10th Doctor regenerated twice and the War Doctor was a secret regeneration. The numbers are all off, but we Whovians accept it because it fits in with the Timey Whimy absurdities of the show.) The Doctor should have died of old age at the end of the 11th Doctor's run when he spent a thousand years on Trensalore. But the Time Lords intervened, using a crack in the universe from the bubble universe that they're trapped in, and granted the Doctor another regeneration cycle, which they can do because this is a show about tim...
