The 44th Medical Brigade deployed to Vietnam in April 1966, where it participated in 15 of the 17 campaigns in which US Forces were involved. These campaigns included Counteroffensives Phase I-VII, Tet Counteroffensive, Tet 69 Counteroffensive, Summer-Fall 69, Winter-Spring 70, Sanctuary Counteroffensive, Consolidation I and II, and Cease Fire. During the Brigade's Vietnam tour it was awarded 2 Meritorious Unit Commendations.

Elements of the Brigade participated on Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983, Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989-1990, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in southwest Asia (including Saudi Arabia) in 1990-1991, Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti 1992, as well as humanitarian assistance to St. Croix, in Florida following Hurricane Andrew, and in the US Virgin Islands following Hurricane Marilyn.

The 44th Medical Brigade was reactivated on 21 September 1974 at Fort Bragg. On 16 July 1993, the 44th Medical Brigade became a separate Major Subordinate Command reporting directly to the XVIII Corps with a General Officer commanding.

Orange and White are the Colours used by Signal Battalions. The Lightning bolts symbolise Communications. The Cotissed Pale symbolises the Battalion's past mission as a Signal Construction Battalion. The Sword refers both to the tactical and support mission of the Battalion. The Tower symbolise World War II service in the Rhineland and Central Europe. The Cross symbolises the awards of the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and four Meritorious Unit Commendations. The Scimitars indicates service in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The Coat of Arms and Distictive Unit Insignia was approved on 15 June 1967. The Coat of Arms was ammended to include a crest on 9 April 1998.
