Big Stopper Tank Tops

Standing just above Ravadas Falls in Lemmenjoki National Park, the largest national park in Finland. This waterfall was stunning from all angles, and in the hour I had before the boat came back for the return trip down the Lemmenjoki River, I had to rush around like mad to get as many different compositions as I could! I also used my new Lee Filters Big Stopper for this shot, and I'm pretty happy with the results.

Ravadas Falls crashes downhill in its rush to get to the Lemmenjoki River beyond. This is an easy day trip, despite the fact that it's located 19km into Lemmenjoki National Park; boats run twice daily so you can either go and walk around the falls for an hour or have a full day to hike 15-20km through some of the best scenery the park has to offer.

The massive falls of Goðafoss in Iceland's north. This had to be one of my favourite waterfalls in Iceland, partially because it had so many different viewpoints and partially because I got to watch the northern lights dance over it for hours the night before! This lookout was definitely the most difficult to get to, requiring a precarious jump across wobbly rocks just upstream from the falls. Initially I decided not to try it, but after a tour bus arrived and a number of people crossed safely, I got up the nerve and managed to get across successfully. Glad I did!

The iconic view of Seljalandsfoss at sunset. Despite the fact that we'd had a huge day -- driving on rough F-roads to Landmannalaugar, then to Seljalandsfoss and finally on to Skógafoss -- I spent my time here running around like crazy trying to capture every angle. Of all the waterfalls I photographed in Iceland, this one definitely had the most angle options as well, since you can walk all the way along the cliffs on both sides as well as right behind it. I'm glad I moved around though, since each angle seemingly shows off the waterfall in a completely different light!

Like so many places I'd visited in Lapland, Porjus (near Gällivare in Swedish Lapland) featured a perfectly calm lake that reflected the sun as it slowly dipped towards the horizon. While this looks like it could be midnight sun, this photo was actually taken around 9.30pm; now that the midnight sun period has finished, Lapland is losing light at a rapid 20 minutes per day! This particular place in Porjus is also a special place for me, since I have now visited it three times (twice in winter and once in summer), and it was the first place I ever visited in Lapland. You could say that it was the catalyst for the many Nordic adventures I've had over the last few years!

Water cascading through the rocks at the Torc Waterfall in Killarney National Park. This waterfall is easily accessible via a short track from the main road, which is at the end of the famous "Ring of Kerry" (at least, if you're driving the loop counterclockwise).

As the sunset... I spent time birdwatching and time catching the fleeting glimpse of dolphins breaking the surface, which led me to this tidal rock. I observed the light as the sunset and thought about a composition using long exposure... The sun blazing as it lowered in the sky. The long exposure worked well and enhanced the crimson burning rays of the warm sunlight... I thought about the optical neutral density filters I used and the quality and although not a big stopper, or even little stopper at that - I was impressed by the optical quality and the rock stopping - so effectively the sunray at the surface... I think it made for an unusual, less photographed piece..!

The sky lights up in pink over the massive Goðafoss waterfall in northern Iceland. I couldn't have asked for a better 18hrs here -- a sunset, northern lights all night, and then blue skies the next day!

The cascades just before Moran's Falls, which drops off a cliff on the right hand side of the photo, just before sunset on a stormy Easter Saturday at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. Even though this was my fifth visit to O'Reilly's and my third yearly pilgrimage with my friend Michelle, it continue to amaze and always makes for an interesting and eventful day out!

Öxarárfoss flowing over the edge of the American tectonic plate in Iceland's Thingvellir National Park. This national park was so incredibly impressive, and the waterfall even more so. It's no wonder that the Icelandic people used this place for the backdrop of some of their most important historical events, including the establishment of the Icelandic Parliament in year 930.

I didn't quite make it down to the coast for the first sunrise of the new year, but I didn't wait long to catch a sunrise in 2016. I've never been to this spot on Miami Beach before, so it was a great new spot to start a new year of shooting.

The incredibly tall rough-and-tumble of Takakkaw Falls. It's over 300m tall and I definitely needed a wide angle to fit it all in one shot, even from this far away!

The towering cliffs of Slieve League in County Donegal. When I stayed in Bundoran, I was told that I had to visit this spot, even though it was a bit off my planned route heading towards the Giant's Causeway. It was absolutely worth the detour though. Very few tourists made it to the top of the cliffs, and I thought they were even more impressive than the more famous Cliffs of Moher to the south!

The rapids of Jäniskoski on the Juutua River near Inari in early July. Quite the difference from how I first saw it in mid-March! How interesting is the colour of this stream? You could tell the water came from a glacier from how milky -- yet how blue -- it was. And that waterfall in the background? That's Takkakaw Falls, a monster of a waterfall. This photo would barely encompass the bottom quarter of it!

A slightly lesser-known view of the famous Kirkjufellsfoss on Iceland's Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Even though the angle facing the mountain of Kirkjufell is usually the one that features in photos, this angle shows just how multi-tiered and divided the waterfall really is.

Looking up at the massive Queen Mary Falls and feeling completely dwarfed by nature.
