This Mersey Ferry was originally the Birkenhead Ferry "Mountwood" launched in 1959, renamed and refurbished in 2001 "MV Royal Iris of the Mersey". The original Royal Iris is still registered with Lloyds and is berthed on the Thames near Woolwich. The Mountwood was used in the film "Ferry 'Cross The Mersey" and also appeared in the opening titles for the television series "The Liver Birds".
