A beautiful great white egret. I love these birds that are both elegant and awkward. From my original oil painting. Also available with painted background.

Egrets are herons that have white or buff plumage, developing fine plumes during the breeding season. Egrets are not a biologically distinct group from herons and have the same build.

The Eastern Great Egret is a permanent resident at Lake Baroon, Maleny. Very close to my home and has been the subject of some great photos...it really knows how to pose!

Egrets are beautiful birds, especially when a slight breeze ruffles their plumage. This one was actually sitting on a fence when I took the photo and he let me get quite close before gliding away to a more private perch. I decided to try and create a background that would set off the simple beauty of the bird in peaceful surroundings, looking for a last bit of supper before going to roost for the night. This one was taken in Indian shores in Florida, I blended the image in Photoshop CC and Topaz Restyle and Clarity.

What should I eat today?

The great egret also known as the white heron is a species of bird in the Ardeidae family. This heron measures from beak to tail between 80 and 104 cm, its wingspan is between 131 and 170 cm. Its weight ranges between 700 and 1,500 g.

Sat down for a spot of lunch at the Wetlands at Healesville Sanctuary, Victoria, Australia - and saw this Great Egret, in full breeding plumage, parading on an old log, trying to attract the females. Must be that time of year!

Great Egret

Patriotic Egret by Debra Martz It was Spring time and the Great Egret was starting into breeding plumage with green lores and wispy feathers. It was flying over a canal on North Padre Island when it landed on a neighboring deck facing their American flag.
