The grocery business thrived, due in part to "celebrity customers ... John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster," and Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. who said: "I was brought up on S.S. Jane Martin's, Morwellham Number of views as of 16th July 2016 = 560. Imagine you've just stepped back in time, about 170 years. This is the scene outside Jane Martin's, Ship's Chandler, Grocer & Tea Dealer's shop at Morwellham Quay in Devon, England. Morwellham was established in the 10th century by Benedectine monks from Tavistock Abbey to carry goods to and from Plymouth. Later, tin, lead and silver ore were transported from the Quay. However its heyday did not come until the 1840s when rich copper deposits were discovered at the Devon Great Consols mine, just 4 miles away. At this time, 30 thousand tons of copper ore were shipped from Morwellham each year. Now an open-air museum, it is hard to imagine the scale of operations at Morwe...
