This group of paintings were discovered only a few years ago and were unknown at that time to the local Aborigines. They are in a huge cave system which was obviously used for living. The Kimberley Coastal Camp is accessible only by small aircraft which land on the shell-grit beach, or by boat. There are no access roads, making it one of the most remote locations in Australia. The Dead Vlei features on many photographers' bucket list. Most photos there show the brilliant blue skies and orange sand dunes. Whilst I have also made such photos, I wanted to also capture the isolation and stark nature of that environment.

Seen on the fast ice of Terra Nova Bay in a colony which is about 300,000 strong at Cape Washington, Ross Sea, Antarctica. Emperor Penguins are the largest penguins reaching 122 cm (48 in) in height and weighing anywhere from 22 to 45 kg (49 to 99 lb). Emperor penguins are not listed as endangered as population counts have indicated that this species is stable. However, there are still concerns that human disturbance may result in declines in breeding populations and that global warming may impact the sea ice and threaten breeding locations. A huge tabular iceberg protrudes from the sea ice about the height of a 10 story building, Ross Sea, Antarctica. The light during the night when there is 24 hour sunlight is very special providing dramatic lighting and colour on the sea ice and in the clouds. From a Jumbo Jet flying at 10,000 feet looking down on the Transantarctic Mountains, Antarctica. The mountain range stretches between the Ross Sea and the Weddell Sea the entire length of Antarctica, hence the name. With a total length of about 3,500 km, the Transantarctic Mountains are one of the longest mountain ranges on Earth. The 100–300 km wide range forms the boundary between East Antarctica and West Antarctica. The Antarctic holds the greatest reserves of fresh water anywhere on earth. Unfortunately due to the terrain there is nothing to give a sense of scale in this image.
