Rocks, rocks everywhere, majestic characters like "The Old Man of Hoy" sea stack, to ancient settlements and Stone circles like "Ring of Brodgar " mysterious and wonder full. Orcadians are master "Dry Stone Dykers " and the beauty of their art is all around, the old houses often have stone slab roofs, last a good while . However the cliffs get eroded by the elements and the face of the coast changes as the stones roll in and out with the tides , constant ebb and flow, love wild places and capturing the constant changes of light and weather. Glad to share it.

Orkney is an archipelago off the northeastern coast of Scotland. The islands encompass Neolithic sites, tall sandstone cliffs and seal colonies. The 'Heart of Neolithic Orkney' is a group of 5,000-year-old sites on Mainland, the largest island. Skara Brae is a preserved village with a reconstructed house, Maeshowe a chambered burial tomb incorporating 12th-century Viking carvings.

Always enjoying how the weather and light creates different moods and conditions in the environment. Island of Hoy has Wild Beauty in all weather. Great for Walking when the weathers fair.

There aren't many beaches on the Orkney mainland, but undoubtedly the best is this one - Waulkmill beach. Its a slot in an otherwise rocky coastline surrounded by verdant hills that gently spill to the coast. In this view the sands extend inland to the right, and out to the open water of Scapa Flow to the left. I've painted this view of a section of the beach using oils on a 16x12 inch board.
