The Pontiac Firebird was an American automobile built by Pontiac from the 1967 to 2002 model years. Designed as a pony car to compete with the Ford Mustang and Mercury Cougar, it was introduced on February 23, 1967, simultaneous with GM's Chevrolet division platform-sharing Camaro. This also coincided with the release of the 1967 Mercury Cougar, Ford's upscale, platform-sharing version of the Mustang. The name "Firebird" was also previously used by GM for the General Motors Firebird 1950s and early 1960s concept cars.

Founded in 1899, Buick has long been considered the oldest luxury carmaker in the United States and specialized in conservative design that was far less ostentatious than other luxury makes. The company is named after its creator, David Dunbar Buick who was an accomplished plumbing engineer who became interested in internal combustion engines and automobiles. In 1899, the engineer began making cars, but despite creating some truly luxurious vehicles early on, auto manufacturing wasn't as profitable as he had hoped. Buick brought William C. Durant in as Buick's general manager and major investor and despite having no dedicated manufacturing line and only a few extant cars, orders tallied over 1,100 by the time of the 1905 New York Auto Show

Founded in 1925, Mallory initially developed OEM ignition systems for many early cars, but by the '50s, they were known for their aftermarket systems for hot rods and drag racers who needed more oomph to get their high-compression engines to light and for those needing more adjustability for fine-tuning and keeping their monster motors humming along. Speed-O-Motive got their start manufacturing custom pistons for flathead racing engines, but eventually began distributing speed parts and offering high-performance engine rebuild kits for pretty much every V8 application out there. If you couldn't swing by their Los Angeles area shop, you could mail order your parts, even complete engines after they begin offering turn key balanced and blueprinted crate racing engines. These crate strokers all ran Speed-O-Motive racing pistons, and the rest of the build leveraged top shelf goodies from other manufacturers.

Like other performance pioneers, Ed Iskenderian was a Southern California hot rodder in the years leading up to World War II, learning speed secrets in an effort to make his own T roadster go faster. Grinding camshafts came after the war when a sudden demand for parts - fueled by returning GIs eager to get back to hot rodding - was so great that Iskenderian was faced with a long wait for a cam he wanted for his own car. Figuring he could do as just as good himself, he bought a surplus cylindrical grinder, converted it into a cam-grinding machine, and went to work. He wasn't just making a similar cam to those available at the time - he made them better, rightfully earning him the nickname of 'The Camfather.'

Tom Hoover, whose work at Chrysler included development of the legendary Max Wedge and 426 Hemi V-8 engines, the 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda, and the 1978 Dodge Li’l Red Express truck, is best known as the “Father of the Hemi.” Hoover trained as a physicist at Juniata College in his hometown of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He received his master’s degree from Penn State and later earned a master’s degree in automotive engineering from the University of Michigan while working for Chrysler. Tom led the team that designed the mighty 426 Hemi that was so powerful and so successful, that it lead to NASCAR changing their rules to attempt to eliminate it from competition.
