Some way down Knockturn Alley at number 13B lies Borgin and Burkes, the most notorious of the alley’s shops, which specialized in “objects with unusual and powerful properties”, and particularly items that were both “unusual and ancient”. Samuel Hart is credited with printing the first illustrated "Best Bower" card in 1863 with his "Imperial Bower". Best Bower-type Jokers continued to be produced well into the 20th century. Cards labelled "Joker" began appearing around the late 1860s, with some depicting clowns and jesters. It is believed that the term "Joker" comes from Jucker or Juckerspiel, the original German spelling of Euchre. One British manufacturer, Charles Goodall, was manufacturing packs with Jokers for the American market in 1871. The first Joker for the domestic British market was sold in 1874. Italians call Jokers "Jolly", for many early cards were labelled "Jolly Joker."

Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (27 February 1863 – 10 August 1923) was a Spanish painter. Sorolla excelled in the painting of portraits, landscapes, and monumental works of social and historical themes. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately 9.4 inches (24 cm) in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter mounted 10 feet (3.048 m) high to a backboard at each end of the court), while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. A field goal is worth two points, unless made from behind the three-point line, when it is worth three. After a foul, timed play stops and the player fouled or designated to shoot a technical foul is given one, two or three one-point free throws.

Highland Cattle are a Scottish cattle breed. They are adapted to the cold weather and stay outside throughout the year. We have been raising these fluffy cows since 2007 on our farm in Finland.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer was founded in 1863 as the weekly Seattle Gazette, and was later published daily in broadsheet format. It was long one of the city's two daily newspapers, along with The Seattle Times, until it became an online-only publication in 2009. The P-I is known for the iconic 13.5-ton, 30-foot neon globe which sat atop its headquarters since 1948 and featured the words "It's in the P-I" rotating around the globe and an 18-foot  eagle perched atop with wings stretched upwards.

The Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) was formed in 1863 and became the second-largest joint railway in Great Britain. The committee, which was often styled the Cheshire Lines Railway or Cheshire Lines Railroad, operated 143 miles of track in the then counties of Lancashire and Cheshire. The railway did not get grouped into one of the Big Four during the implementation of the 1923 grouping, surviving independently with its own management until the railways were nationalized at the beginning of 1948. The railway served Liverpool, Manchester, Stockport, Warrington, Widnes, Northwich, Winsford, Knutsford, Chester, and Southport with connections to many other railways.

Owned by Mr. Borgin and Mr. Burke, Borgin & Burkes was an antique shop located at 13B Knockturn Alley that was known to deal in unusual and ancient wizarding artifacts. The shop had a somewhat shady reputation due to the fact that it was frequented by those with sinister intents, as well as the greedy and money-minded nature of its founders.
