When gold was discovered in the East Kootenays of British Columbia in 1863, prospectors from all over the West surged northward. Edwin Bonner established a ferry in 1864 where the trail crossed the broad Kootenai River. Edwin sold his ferry business in 1875, but the location retained his name, later becoming The Village of Bonners Ferry when it was formally established in 1893. The rich Kootenai River Valley became known as the “Nile of the North,” as the Bonners Ferry Lumber Company grew to be one of the world’s largest lumber mills and the town began growing at a steady pace, and today, much of Main Street dates from this period of development.

A vintage magazine cover or poster, with the word "Outing" prominently displayed at the top in large, stylized lettering. Below this title is a scene featuring a woman riding a bicycle; she's drawn in a late 19th-century illustration style. She has a large, elaborate hat and is dressed in an outfit that suggests leisure or sportswear of that era, with a puffed sleeve blouse and a skirt that billows around her as she rides. In the background, there's a night sky with a smiling moon, and below her, the text reads "BICYCLE Number For JUNE 1896." The scene has a playful, whimsical quality, with the smiling moon adding a surreal touch to the otherwise realistic portrayal of the woman and her bicycle.

According to the Statesville Chamber of Commerce, the two-story home was built in 1893 and is the most ornate Queen Anne Victorian home in Iredell county and ranks among the top ten in North Carolina. Dr. Julius Lowenstein and his brother-in-law, M.W. Myer, opened a major wholesale liquor house in Statesville. Lowenstein, a prominent member of the Jewish community in Statesville, lived in the magnificent Queen Anne style house on W. Broad Street next to Broad Street Methodist Church. A 1891 Christmas vintage postcard from the Woodson Spice Company. This beautiful illustration shows Santa dressed in green rather than the red we are used to seeing him in. I suppose his taste in fashion has changed over the past 100 plus years! I have not retouched the original in any way, so any signs of wear were left there intentionally to give it a more authentic old feel.
