The 194th Glider Infantry Regiment was a Glider infantry regiment of the United States Army that served in World War II. It was a part of the 17th Airborne Division, and saw active combat service until its deactivation in 1945. On 16 December 1944, the Wehrmacht launched a surprise attack on Allied positions, beginning the infamous Battle of the Bulge.[1] The 17th Airborne Division was rushed to the front to assist the embattled defenders of Bastogne, and the men of the 194th Glider Infantry marched through the snow to relieve elements of the 28th Infantry Division.

Activated 15 August 1942 at Camp C;aiborne, Louisana and assigned to 101st Airborne Division. The Regiment then moved to Fort Bragg, NC on 1 October 1942. Thje regiment then staged at Camp Shanks NY and departed 5 September 1943, arrived in England 19 Oct 1943. Assault the Normandy breach in June 1944. The onSeptember 1944 assaulted Nijmegen Holland. Returned to France 28 November 1944, disbanded on 1 MArch 1945. The glidermen were assigned to the 327th Glider Infantry. Campaigns: Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe

Glider infantry are loaded into gliders which are attached to towing aircraft by a cable. The loaded gliders are then towed through the air by towing aircraft and flown to a release point usually just beyond the hearing range of enemy troops. The tow cables are then released and the gliders would be piloted, without engine power, to a designated landing zone.
