70s American Motors

The Gremlin was introduced in 1970 by American Motors as a subcompact two-door model that was marketed as "the first American-built import." Utilizing a shortened Hornet platform, with a stylized hatchback body, the Gremlin's unique styling stuck out among the era's subcompact completion. Added to 1971 models, those who opted for the Gremlin X package were rewarded with a bigger engine, wider tires, and revised slot-style wheels. The interior of the Gremlin X also featured bucket seats from the Javelin, an AM/FM radio, fabric sunroof, tilt steering wheel, inside hood release, and front disk brakes. 1972 models added an available 304 cu in V8 engine, following the muscle car formula of stuffing a big motor in a small car.

The 1968 Trans-Am season saw a new competitor in sedan road racing, one that in its rookie year displayed the perfect combination of brute strength, amazing speed and all out stamina. Two race-prepped Javelins were equipped to race in the over-2-liter and under-5-liter engine class which permitted a maximum of 305 cu. in. engine displacement. The Javelins had factory 290 ci V-8 engines that were bored to 304.3 cubic inches to obtain maximum performance within the displacement limit. As a result, the first official American Motors racing team proved that their Javelins could compete with the best of the best in the Trans-Am racing circuit.

Plymouth was a brand of automobiles produced by Chrysler Corporation and its successor DaimlerChrysler. The brand was launched in 1928 to compete in what was then described as the "low-priced" market segment that was dominated by Chevrolet and Ford. It became the high-volume seller for the automaker until the late 1990s. Plymouth cars were marketed primarily in the United States. The brand was withdrawn from the marketplace in 2001. The Plymouth models that were produced up to then were either discontinued or rebranded as Chrysler or Dodge.

Oldsmobile was a brand of American automobiles produced for most of its existence by General Motors. Olds Motor Vehicle Co. was founded by Ransom E. Olds in 1897. In its 107-year history, it produced 35.2 million cars, including at least 14 million built at its Lansing, Michigan factory. When it was phased out in 2004, Oldsmobile was the oldest surviving American automobile marque. Running with the rocket theme and based on the popularity of its Rocket V8 engine, Oldsmobile fully embraced the rocket as its insignia. It even altered the grilles and taillights on its models to imitate the upright rocket. During this time, Oldsmobile hit its peak with the country’s best-selling car, the Cutlass.

The name "Hudson" came from Joseph L. Hudson, a Detroit department store entrepreneur and founder of Hudson's department store, who provided the necessary capital and gave permission for the company to be named after him. A total of eight Detroit businessmen formed the company on February 20, 1909, to produce an automobile which would sell for less than US$1,000 (equivalent to approximately $26,656 in today's funds). One of the chief "car men" and organizer of the company was Roy D. Chapin, Sr., a young executive who had worked with Ransom E. Olds. (Chapin's son, Roy Jr., would later be president of Hudson-Nash descendant American Motors Corp. in the 1960s).

The Chevrolet Corvette (C6) is the sixth generation of the Corvette sports car that was produced by Chevrolet division of General Motors for the 2005 to 2013 model years.

AMC was notorious for taking on the big three in its own way. When it came to the muscle car market the AMC approach was unique, with performance that could give the big boys a run for their money. “The Machine” came with a flamboyant red, white, and blue paint scheme that made as much of statement as its 340-horsepower V8. From the factory this Rebel was poised as a street legal drag race car and could run mid-14s in the quarter mile. The distinctive ram-air hood scoop and hood-mounted tachometer contributed to the car’s performance-minded attitude. “The Machine” was no poser; developed in collaboration with Hurst Performance, it could put down the power via the “Twin-Grip” Positraction style differential.
