According to his own statements he wanted to give the African-American population a voice. Archie Shepp Jazz musician, saxophonist, singer, pianist, composer and literature as well as theatre scholar. Spending his childhood in Philadelphia, Shepp learned piano and clarinet. As a teenager playing in Rhythm & Blues Band`s he already met greats like John Coltrane, but for the time being he took a different path.
