Graphic Nature - Arctic tern poo design. This design is based on personal experience, so I thought I would share it (as the tern was quite happy to do so too). Please note that the design is also available without the poo - just in case. Ethereal means extremely delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world. It's a word that seems to suit this image, which started out as a straight photo taken on The Farne islands with my Nikon D300. It was a nice clear image, but I wanted to make it a bit more "Arty" and add some movement to the wings. So after a little playing around with Photoshop and Topaz Studio, this is what I finished up with.

The greater crested tern has grey upperparts, white underparts, a yellow bill, and a shaggy black crest that recedes in winter. Its young have a distinctive appearance, with strongly patterned grey, brown and white plumage, and rely on their parents for food for several months after they have fledged. Like all members of the genus Thalasseus, the greater crested tern feeds by plunge diving for fish, usually in marine environments; the male offers fish to the female as part of the courtship ritual.

The Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea) is a species of tern that breeds in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. It is one of the most migratory bird species in the world, migrating from its breeding grounds in the Arctic to its wintering grounds in the Antarctic and back again. The Arctic Tern is a medium-sized bird, with a wingspan of around 75 cm (29.5 in). Its upperparts are a pale grey, while its underparts are white. Its bill and legs are a bright red colour. Its diet consists mainly of small fish, but it also eats insects, crustaceans and other small animals. The Arctic Tern is a vocal species, with a variety of calls used to communicate with other members of its species.
