The number 13 has long been associated with bad luck, partly because it follows the “complete” number 12 (12 months, 12 zodiac signs, 12 apostles). Friday also carried negative associations in Christian tradition, as it is believed to be the day of Jesus’ crucifixion. Over time, folklore, literature, and pop culture—especially horror films—reinforced the idea that mishaps are more likely to occur on this date.
