Dandelions (Taraxicum officinale) are wonderful early spring flowers for pollinators in the Pacific Northwest. This native bumblebee (Bombus vosnesenskii) is happy to find one!

For this years 'Summer in The Sun" photo competition, I wanted something striking, colourful and bright which depicted a highly relevant less bright *conservation topic right now...* and that of course, for me boiled down to the often overlooked humble bumble bee! A friend mentioned that 'composition is everything' in photography - and he's absolutely right..! Looking beyond that and in particular photography within the natural sciences... is that of the reason for acquisition..!? This particular image, although lacking in detail and looking a little fuzzy upon magnification, made it into portfolio, because compositionally it is just perfect, with not often found, detailing due to the workable light 'within the eye'... and on the merit of its significance...
