Cardinal Pride Tapestries

I had randomly come across an article explaining the discovery of a hermaphrodite cardinal. It’s color was perfectly split down the middle displaying one half with the female’s yellow color while the opposite side was bright red as found in males. I was inspired to recreate this animal oddity in my latest totem piece. It might spread a little light on the fact that nature isn't always black and white when it comes to identity. This piece was created using colored pencil and micron pens.

This is my acrylic painting of the Ohio state bird and flower, which are the cardinal and red carnation. This state chose the red carnation to honor President William McKinley, an Ohioan who liked to wear red carnations stuck in his buttonhole on the lapel of his jacket. Ohio was admitted to the union on March 1, 1803 as the 17th state. This painting is part of my state birds and flowers collection.
