Autumn scene overlooking the hills in rural Central Ontario in the area of Creemore. I captures this fall scene during an artisan studio tour of the Purples Hills Art Society. This is an area where the Niagara escarpment extends northward to Georgian Bay. The hills have the advantage of scenic lookouts over the farm land and surrounding country side. Rural barn with silos. A typical barn located in Central Ontario countryside surrounded by crop fields. This was in late autumn as farmers let the crops such as soya beans dry before harvesting. Typically I am looking for bright autumn colours but the muted tones of this fall scene gives an overall sepia tone to the image. The result is an interesting study of farm life and rural charm. A country scene combining a hay baler and bales. This caught my eye to create this image in the area of Creemore in Central Ontario. The baler is used to compress cut and windrow crops such as hay, or silage into compact bales that are easy to handle and transport from the field. The stored bales are used as feed throughout the year for livestock. This is actually a vintage baler that makes smaller round bales than the much larger ones in the background. I grew up on a farm and used such a baler. It was a noisy machine that shook rattled and rolled with lots of belts and pulleys. The rolled bales were left to cure in the field to dry before being collected om to a wagon and hauled to the barn. If the hay was stored still wet, hea...
