A Walk Down To Clovelly, Devon, England A cobblestone path descends towards a tranquil harbour with moored boats, flanked by charming white houses with red chimneys. The view opens up to a serene body of water, and the horizon is lined with a distant coastline under a partly cloudy sky.

Clovelly, Downhill, Devon, England Clovelly is a privately owned harbour village in the Torridge district of Devon, England. The settlement and surrounding land belongs to John Rous who inherited it from his mother in 1983. He belongs to the Hamlyn family who have managed the village since 1738. The village, which is built into the wooded sea cliffs of the north Devon shore. The area has had human habitation since the Iron Age as there is a hillfort at Windbury Head northwest of the village. Following the Norman conquest of England in 1066, the Manor of Clovelly was acquired by William the Conqueror from its Saxon tenant. It was listed in the Domesday Book as "Clovelie".

Clovelly, North Devon, England Number of views as of 10th April 2018 = 600. A steep, cobbled street (originally built using pebbles from the beach and far too steep for motor vehicles) leads 'down-along' between white-painted cottages to the small harbour at Clovelly on the North Devon coast, one of my favourite places in Devon. The village has no individually-owned houses, the whole village being owned and maintained by a single family. Once a bustling fishing port, bringing in herring and mackerel, the Clovelly area was also rife with smuggling, wrecking and piracy. Red Lion, Clovelly Number of views as of 4th December 2017 = 1130. Offering unrivalled views along the North Devon coast, the Red Lion Hotel in Clovelly is a popular watering-hole with visitors who negotiate the steep, cobble-stoned street down to the quay. Dating from the 18th century, the Red Lion has 11 ensuite bedrooms, each one offering a sea or harbour view. Date: 7th April 2010.

Highford Farm, North Devon Number of views as of 29th February 2016 = 800. 'Home base' for a recent trip to North Devon was a barn conversion at Highford Farm, a couple of miles south-west of Clovelly. An excellent base for exploring some of the more remote parts of the North Devon and Cornwall coastline, including the Hartland peninsula. Date: 4th April 2010. Blackchurch Rock, North Devon, England Number of views as of 24th January 2018 = 940. Blackchurch Rock can be found at Mouth Mill cove on the North Devon coast about 2 miles north west of Clovelly. The geological folding of carboniferous rocks here has resulted in two natural archways, said to resemble the nave of a church, hence the name. Date: 7th April 2010.
