As a native of Durham, Maine, King was inspired by his hometown when creating Castle Rock. The town name is taken from the fictional mountain fort in William Golding's 1954 novel Lord of the Flies. Other notable fictional towns that King has used as the central setting in more than one work include Derry and Jerusalem's Lot.

Derry is based on the real life city of Bangor, and while the town's exact location differs slightly from story to story, it's always in the Bangor vicinity, with several real neighboring cities making appearances. Just like with the real town, Derry has its own giant Paul Bunyan statue and claims to be the lumberjack folk hero's birthplace.

They are group of seven preteen misfit children who all lived in the fictional town of Derry, Maine. The group is first formed in the summer of 1958 and is led by Bill Denbrough. They reunite in Derry 27 years later in 1985 on the strength of an old and nearly forgotten promise, except for Stan Uris. They are archenemies of Pennywise and the arch-rivals of Henry Bowers.
Description: Needful Things is a 1991 horror novel by American author Stephen King. It is the first novel King wrote after his rehabilitation from drug and alcohol addiction. It was made into a film of the same name in 1993 which was directed by Fraser C. Heston. The story focuses on a shop that sells collectibles and antiques, managed by Leland Gaunt, a new arrival to the town of Castle Rock, Maine, the setting of many King stories.

'Salem's Lot has served as the setting for a number of his novels, novellas, and short stories. The town is described as being located in Cumberland County, between (or including parts of) the towns of Falmouth, Windham, and Cumberland, near the southern part of the state about 10 miles north of Portland. A map on King's official website, though, places 'Salem's Lot considerably further north, approximately in Northwest Piscataquis.
