The lookout at Kaunispää hill, just outside the town of Saariselkä and at the top of one of their many ski runs. It was a lot quieter here than in winter, when snowmobiles were constantly whipping by on the track below!

There's no better time for a stroll along the waterfront on Queenstown's Lake Wakatipu at sunset. Not only do the Remarkables glow in the evening light, but in St Omer Park on the lake's foreshore, the setting sun lights up the trees in amazing patterns.

The slightly lesser-known Pearl Harbour, this one located on Lake Manapouri on New Zealand's South Island.

You wouldn't have thought you'd see much when you arrive late at night in the Arctic Circle -- but you'd be wrong! Even in the pitch black that coats the islands for most hours in early January, the scenery around us as we drove south into the islands was stunning -- so much so that we had to pull over and see what we could capture. We were both pretty happy with what we got!

I was so lucky being able to capture this sunrise. When I woke up around 5.15am to a brilliantly pink room I realised that I was missing a fantastic sunrise over Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. Luckily we were staying in a hotel on the lakeshore so I was able to run across the road and capture the amazing colours.

Milford Sound must have known that I wanted to take photos the day I was there, since it was not only overcast but low tide as well! I didn't mind too much though, since this photo really epitomises Milford Sound -- spectacular landscapes and not-so-spectacular weather!

Driving into a rare patch of blue sky as we neared Knight's Point on New Zealand's West Coast.

The main thing that drew us to this scene as we drove down the E10 into the Lofoten Islands was the sheer calm of the fjord's water beside us. We never saw a body of water this calm again for the rest of our trip! This was my last shot of the evening, and I was a bit sad when a car drove past and lit up the foreground...but it actually added a nice golden touch to the few surviving plants there.

There's plenty of fantastic places in Queensland for star watching, but the Granite Belt has to be up there with the best. I got this shot barely 5 minutes out of Stanthorpe, the biggest town in the region.

As we drove north along the west coast towards Hokitika and Arthur's Pass, we passed a sign for the Lake Mapourika camping area. I decided to quickly pull in and see what the lake was like. Boy was I glad I did that, since the water was completely still with an absolutely perfect reflection, with only the occasional ripple breaking the unending calm.

All I can think of when I see this photo is how cold my feet were when I took it! I decided not to inundate my boots, so instead waded into the glacial Matukituki River barefoot. The pins and needles had me dancing on the bank for minutes afterward!

Lupins are absolutely everywhere in Mackenzie Country in December, and I can't say I mind too much. I just had to make sure I picked and chose my spots so I wasn't constantly taking flower photos! This shot was captured on the hillside of Mount John just down from the observatory.

Wow. What else can I say to describe what it was like to be in Reine on this winter morning? After a few mornings of cloud, it finally cleared and we were treated to two continuous hours of sunset, with beautiful oranges and yellows to the south and pinks to the north. Just stunning. Sunrise on Boxing Day lit up the entirely of Lake Wanaka in pink. Definitely worth the early wakeup call on a public holiday!

We got very excited on the last night of our recent trip to Lofoten because it looked like everything was coming together. The sky was clear, the northern horizon was starting to glow green...and then this happened. Luckily we got a few beams before the clouds completely covered them up again!

Sunrise lighting up everything around Lake Wanaka -- the clouds, the mountains of Mount Aspiring National Park, and the lake itself -- in a gorgeous pastel pink colour. It only lasted for a few minutes, but it was worth the early wakeup call (as well as standing knee-deep in freezing water to get the shot)!
