Malzeno is an elder dragon covered with elegant silver scales it drains the life energy of other living creatures, creeping around at night and attacking its prey from behind though malzeno appears regal at a glance, it takes on a more sinister appearance after draining enough energy

When I first took this photo, some months ago... I first thought that this monitor lizard was peculiarly sticking his head down the drain to forage for ants, or access freshwater after the rains. After a minute or so I realised that the life of this creature had quite literally drained away... yet it looked so perfectly poised and almost alive. I continued my journey onwards and later returned to see that, still there was no movement. Maybe it had just got trapped or been bitten by a deadly poisonous snake which we sometimes find in the area...? For whatever reason it was, in a strange way it makes 'a perfectly abstract' photo ~ hopefully not too objectionable!

Tourretia lappacea is a flowering plant species in the family Boraginaceae. It is commonly known as White Lace Flower or Gouty-stem Tourretia. The plant is native to North America, found in many states in the United States and parts of Mexico. It is a herbaceous annual that grows up to 2 feet tall with small white flowers that bloom in summer. The flowers are star-shaped with five petals and a yellow center. The leaves are alternate and lance-shaped. Tourretia lappacea is often used in wildflower gardens and as a border plant. It is also known for its medicinal properties and is used in traditional Native American medicine to treat various ailments.

Modern farming techniques mean much of this sediment contains phosphorus and nitrogen from fertilisers. These nutrient-rich effluents cause an explosion in the summer population of phytoplankton. When they die, the bacteria responsible for decomposition absorb oxygen in the water leading to a 'dead zone' on the ocean floor where few animals can live. Autumnal storms stir the water and clear the dead zone until the following year. Photographed in 1999.
