The Battle of Horsell Common was a battle that took place during the Martian Invasion of Earth. It was the British army's first engagement with the Martian Fighting Machines but with their armour plating the Martians were easily able to wipe out the army and the British were defeated at Horsell Common.

The Mewstone is a small, uninhabited island of the south coast of Devon. The photo was taken on a hot summers day in July from Wembury Point.

HMS Beagle was a Cherokee-class 10-gun brig-sloop of the Royal Navy, one of more than 100 ships of this class. The vessel was launched on 11 May 1820 from the Woolwich Dockyard on the River Thames. There was no immediate need for Beagle so she "lay in ordinary", moored afloat but without masts or rigging. She was then adapted as a survey barque and took part in three survey expeditions. One of theses voyages was the second voyage of HMS Beagle, which was notable for carrying the recently graduated naturalist Charles Darwin around the world.

Pictured in this stunning colour photograph are two helicopters both believed to be Westland Wessex choppers. They are sat on board the Royal Navy's aircraft carrier HMS Hermes and the photo dates to the 1960s. This is one of many photo's that were taken by my father whilst he served on HMS Hermes in the 1960s.

Horsell Common, located between the Surrey villages of Woking, Ottershaw, and Horsell, was the landing Site of the first Martian projectile. This was the start of the Invasion of Britain, as portrayed in H.G. Wells book, The War of the Worlds.

The sun sets on another busy day in the City of London, casting an evening glow on Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast and the River Thames. Tower Bridge in the center of the picture is one of London's defining landmarks and was built over 125 years ago. To the right of the picture is HMS Belfast, a light cruiser built in 1939, serving with the Royal Navy during the Second World War, entering reserve in 1963. HMS Belfast was brought to London as a museum ship and opened to the public in 1971.

The second voyage of HMS Beagle, from 1831 to 1836, was the second survey expedition of HMS Beagle. At the age of 22, the graduate Charles Darwin hoped to see the tropics before becoming a parson, and accepted the opportunity.
