IJN Kaga (加賀/かが) was an aircraft carrier built for the IJN, named after the former Kaga Province in present-day Ishikawa Prefecture. Originally intended to be one of two Tosa-class battleships, Kaga was converted under the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty to an aircraft carrier

IJN Kongo (金剛/こんごう) was a warship of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War I and World War II, named for Mount Kongo, literally "Indestructible Diamond". She was the first battlecruiser of the Kongo class, among the most heavily armed ships in any navy when built.

IJN Zuikaku (瑞鶴/ずいかく, literally Auspicious Crane) was a Shokaku-class aircraft carrier built for the IJN, took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and sunk during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

Arizona was hit by Japanese torpedo bombers during the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. After one of their bombs detonated in a magazine, she exploded violently and sank, with the loss of 1,177 officers and crewmen. Unlike many of the other ships sunk or damaged that day, Arizona was irreparably damaged by the force of the magazine explosion. The wreck still lies at the bottom of Pearl Harbor beneath the USS Arizona Memorial

IJN Nagato (長門/ながと) was a super-dreadnought battleship built for the IJN during the 1910s, named after the Nagato Province, the lead ship of her class. The ship was modernized in 1934 – 1936 with improvements to her armor and machinery and a rebuilt superstructure in the pagoda mast style.

The Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" is a long-range fighter aircraft formerly manufactured by Mitsubishi Aircraft Company, a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1940 to 1945. The A6M was designated as the Mitsubishi Navy Type 0 carrier fighter, or the Mitsubishi A6M Rei-sen. The official Allied reporting name was "Zeke", although the use of the name "Zero" (from Type 0) was used colloquially by the Allies as well. The Zero is considered to have been the most capable carrier-based fighter in the world when it was introduced early in World War II, combining excellent maneuverability and very long range.

The Seigaiha pattern, also known as the "wave" or "blue ocean waves" pattern, is a traditional Japanese design consisting of repeated concentric circles or arches that resemble stylized ocean waves. This pattern carries several symbolic meanings. It symbolizes the ideas of continuity and eternal life, as the circular nature of the pattern suggests an endless cycle, representing longevity and a harmonious life. It can also represent prosperity and success, with the upward flow of the waves signifying progress. In some interpretations, the Seigaiha pattern represents protection from misfortune. Moreover, it reflects a deep connection to nature and the harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world, particularly the ocean.

This nautical pattern was inspired by traditional Japanese wave motif (seigaiha). From as early as the sixteenth century magnificent depictions of waves crashing on rocky shores were painted on folding screens known as "rough seas screens". Historically, the constant cycle of waves has signified serenity as well as powerful ferocity and resilience. The endless ebb and flow of water along the shore is a permanent reminder of both the passing of time as well as the hazardous power of the ocean. As main background color the deep turmaline shade of blue was used to complement delicate white waves.
