Santorini is a Greek island in the Cyclades, in the Mediterranean. The steep cliffs are the result of a volcanic explosion in antiquity, which left a caldera which now forms the bay. Whitewashed houses and blue-domed churches cling to the cliffs in the beautiful village of Oia.

The tiny St George's Island in Kotor Bay, Montenegro, also known as the Island of the Dead. The island contains a 12th century Benedictine abbey and a cemetery.

This image was taken from Rinella Creek within the Grand Harbour of Valletta on the island of Malta. The two forts on either side of the harbour entrance can be seen in this shot with Fort St Elmo on the left and Fort Ricasoli on the right with the clear blue sky reflecting in the waters of the harbour turning them deep blue in the sunshine. The legend of the lost city of Atlantis has amazingly strong romantic appeal to the imagination of mankind. Why is the Greek philosopher Plato’s story of the catastrophic destruction of the ancient island or Atlantida continent has inspired people for three centuries? Artist, poets, priests, and writers dedicated thoughts to the Atlantis philosophy, origins, and geographic location. Many even tried and gave up searching for the lost city physical remains. In spite of luck of hard evidence that the subject ever existed it takes part of the mythology of many diverse cultures. What, then, accounts for its apparently inexhaustible, passionate appeal of Atlantida which is a poetical name of the place; the question still remains open, is it not?

I discovered this gnarled tree in Mdina, Malta’s medieval capital. Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city and unusual in its mix of medieval and Baroque architecture. Today Mdina has a quiet, restrained atmosphere in keeping with its noble past. Lamp lit by night, Mdina transforms itself into the ‘Silent City’. Victoria Gate, Southern Valletta, Malta. Victoria Gate replaced the former Marina Gate in 1884. As well as one of the former gates to the ciy it is also a road bridge. Malta is a small island situated south of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea.
