From the series “Please do not kill butterflies”: Please, all these dead animals ... Of course, not everyone of us can or want become vegetarian. Sure, in some cases, maybe, the medical experimentation needs them to get results. But we really have to kill them for our frivolous activities? ... Is it necessary to have so many pink pigs die in front of a camera? Do we really need to dissect sharks in formaldehyde, to starve stray dogs tied to a chain in the corner of a gallery, or to make innocent ants go crazy in twisted tubes of plexiglass? To make these drawings, no butterfly was killed.

Inspired by the 'Epiphyllum Oxypetalum' cactus native to southern Mexico, which flowers only once per year, and only at night! Its rare nightly blooms earn it the nickname 'Queen of the Night'. In Japan, it is known as the 月下美人 (Gekka Bijin) or "Beauty under the Moon". In Sri Lanka it is called "Kadupul" (කඩුපුල්) which means "the flower from heaven". Sometimes, or likely most of the times I get a feeling of painting something that I fancy in my head and I started with the moss on the trunk and branches and after that I added in the background adding to the atmosphere. It seemed promising and mood evoking, spurred on with the smell of the emollient oil paints, but there was something sort of amiss, not absolutely right so that is when the communal moths came into the picture. The work looked more complete with them in the image and a little more delicate too, as these creatures are really. This is how ‘The Gathering On The Moss’ came about, not that meaningful as such, unlike with many of my paintings, accept that it can help you start off a story if you wish. It is more something ...

This piece was created for a group show called "Mailbox" at Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences in Rabun Gap, Georgia. Hambidge sent us a blank card and an envelope and we were to use those two objects in an art piece and send it back to them. So, my painting is called "Attn: Wildnerness". It is a letter to the wilderness and includes a collection of stamps from my childhood.

The cryptid creature Mothman is into metal. Hey, look it up!

In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a humanoid creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 15, 1966, to December 15, 1967. The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register, dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States. The source of the legend is believed to have originated from sightings of out-of-migration sandhill cranes or herons.
