New South Wales Tapestries

Byron Bay is a coastal town located in the northeastern part of New South Wales, Australia. It is known for its beautiful beaches, surf breaks, and natural beauty.

After the sun rose over Cathedral Rocks on the NSW south coast, I snuck into a small cave that I'd had my eye on. Luckily, the tide about an hour off high tide, so I was able to stay in the cave and shoot water coming into it without getting stranded! It was definitely a difficult place to shoot, since every time the water came rushing in my tripod sunk into the sand and I got splashes of water on my lens, which accounts for the slightly dreamy appearance. It was worth the hassle though!

Scribbly gum Berowra Valley Bushland Park Sydney, NSW, Australia The scribbly gum is an Australian eucalypt named after the ‘scribbles’ on its bark. These zigzag tracks are tunnels made by the larvae of the Scribbly Gum Moth and follow the insect’s life cycle. Eggs are laid between layers of old and new bark. Looking at this amazing view near Belmore Falls in the Southern Highlands made me appreciate how lucky we are in Oz to have such beautiful scenery. This is a 3 vertical photo stitch of photos taken from the lookout. I tried a 2 horizontal photo stitch but preferred this one. Lots of sunshine but few dark shadows .. perfect !! While the fireworks displays straddling the harbour bridge were larger & more impressive, the smaller displays from the harbour barge were more photogenic. [104views 7/9/14] Newcastle, Australia The lighthouse was constructed in 1858 on what was originally an island. A breakwater complete with railway lines was built later to connect it to the mainland (see this site for more of the history). The rail lines are now almost wholly covered by sand. However, this 1925 shot shows how the line and the island/headland used to look. Bellinger River National Park A vintage travel badge design of Bellinger River National Park with Bellinger River and Unspoilt Forest in Darkwood New South Wales Australia.

My latest installation in St Edmund's Anglican Church Maroubra (20th Nov 2013), this image of Christ is based on several sculptures and paintings from the 20th century depicting Jesus the Comforter. The Biblical quotation was chosen by the donor and the window is in memory of her husband Wally Williamson. I have positioned the figure to the left of centre with His hand outstretched in an attitude of invitation, inviting the observer to come and sit beside Him and chat, to unburden his or her sorrows and be comforted.

Waves crash over the rocks at Bombo Quarry as storms roll in from the sea beyond. This is definitely a place where you have to watch what the waves are doing before you put your tripod down so you can make sure it won't get swept down into the rocky gorges beyond!

The Milky Way stretches across the sky above the Fingal Head lighthouse in northern New South Wales. We were lucky to be able to see the Milky Way at all, since it was intermittently raining in between patches of completely clear skies.

In the 1860s there was one man who was the nemesis of the New South Wales bushrangers - Sir Frederick Pottinger. A gambler, a dandy and a baronet, Pottinger became one of the most renowned frontier lawmen in Australia facing off against the likes of Frank Gardiner, Johnny Gilbert and Ben Hall.
