The northern lights light up the skies above Jasper and the waters of Lake Edith below. It was well worth the wait on the shoreline, even if it was so quiet that I jumped out of my skin when a fish jumped nearby! Camera: Nikon D750 w/ 16-35mm f/4 lens ISO 3200, 30s @f4

One of the most beloved bridges in America--the Brooklyn Bridge! It was built in the late 19th century and connected the cities of New York and Brooklyn (before they merged with the other borough to create the New York City we know today). Today is still carries vehicular traffic and is a tourist mecca, for good reason! It is beautiful and fun to walk across on a nice day.

I spend so much time out in the mountains that sometimes I forget about how much natural beauty surrounds Calgary to the north, south, and east. The prairies are sparse but beautiful; in winter, being there can feel like you are surrounded by endless meters of thick snow and virtually nothing else. We found this scene a few weeks ago on our trip out to the Badlands for an afternoon workshop, but we easily could have spent the whole day just taking photos of groves of trees surrounded by snow!

On this afternoon in mid-November, we were treated to a perfect pastel sunset. The only problem was that, with the temps hovering around -20ºC and gusting winds, we struggled to stay outside for very long to capture it!

I took this shot at Hiji Falls in Okinawa, Japan. I had a 30 second shutter speed and a f/5.6 at ISO 100. I processed it later in photoshop CS5 and used Nik Effex. It is composed of 3 different images shot at different exposures to get the range of light that I wanted. You can view all my photos on my website at www.jswolfphotography.com

Get in the action even if you're not official

Since we were staying on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge, it was a quick drive up to Battery Spencer so we could watch the sunset. As we rushed up from the parking lot, the sky turned pink and orange over the Marin Headlands behind us and lit up the entire sky -- even creating a rainbow over Alcatraz, which is just to the left of this photo.

Wanaka has 'that Wanaka tree,' and I think this is Lake McKenzie's equivalent. This place, located on Fraser Island on the south east Queensland coast, is absolute perfection. The sand is fine and white -- so fine that it can clean your jewelry -- and the water is so amazingly clear it's unreal. I love it.

Dipping your face into the Sligachan River is said, in myth, to give you everlasting beauty. That may or may not be the case -- you'll have to ask the few people on my tour who were game enough to put their head in the ice cold waters -- but the river itself certainly has its own everlasting beauty!

I don't know if there are many things more relaxing than watching the sun slowly dip down into the ocean along a gorgeous stretch of coast like this one.

I took this shot from the Griffith Observatory where parts of the James Dean movie "A Rebel Without A Cause" was filmed. This place was amazing because it had an awesome view of the city as you can see here. This is an HDR that was taken with -2, 0, +2 exposures and combined in photomatix. I masked through the original pictures to get the look i wanted. I then took the photo to CS5 where i did further editing with OnOne software and nik effex.
