Tug Boat Herbert Number of views as of 24th April 2019 = 1080. Under a lowering sky, Poole Harbour Commissioners tug, the Herbert Ballam, moored up at Poole Quay, Dorset, England. Rear left is the modern Sunseeker factory, which turns out highly desirable luxury motor cruisers, whilst Sydenhams wood yard can be seen on the right just beyond the town lifting bridge. Frog Went a Courting Number of views as of 17th January 2018 = 1330. One Saturday in May 2010, I met up with RB members David Cross and Pat & Michael Tapping, who were over from South Australia. We spent a few hours in the picturesque setting of Compton Acres (Poole, Dorset), one of the finest privately owned gardens in Southern England. The weather was rather overcast and a little chilly for the time of the year (especially for those used to the warmer climes of South Aus). However, I'm sure we grabbed a few good shots between us. This shot of the Japanese garden with the Tea House in the background put me in mind of the traditional English folk song Frog Went a Courting, and he couldn't have found a more romantic setting for it! *Sunset over Durdle Door* Number of views as of 8th March 2018 = 1650. Durdle Door is situated a couple of miles to the west of Lulworth on the so-called 'Jurassic Coast' of Dorset, England. One of the most photographed places on the south coast, Durdle Door is an impressive, natural limestone rock archway formed about 140 million years ago. Here, the winter sun sets over the Isle of Portland, illuminating the arch with golden light. Date: 12th December 2010. Kerrera Wreck Number of views as of 22nd May 2019 = 1770. Shot this abandoned fishing boat at The Little Horse Shoe bay on the Island of Kerrera, just off the coast of Argyll, Scotland. The Water Tower, Upper Gardens, Bournemouth Number of views as of 8th June 2017 = 1030. Built in 1883, this former water tower is situated in the Upper Gardens in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. The gardens follow the Bourne Stream from Branksome (where it emerges from a pipe) a distance of over 2 miles to the Pier approach by the beach. There are 4 sections, namely Coy Pond, the Upper Gardens, Central Gardens and Lower Gardens. The Lower Gardens are a popular meeting place during the summer months but tend to be avoided by those 'in the know', who prefer the peace and tranquility to be found further upstream. All Souls College, Oxford Number of views as of 14th February 2019 = 1140. The College of All Souls of the Faithful Departed (Oxford, England) was founded in 1438 by Henry VI and Henry Chichele (a fellow of New College and Archbishop of Canterbury). Today the College is primarily an academic research institution with particular strengths in the Humanities and Social and Theoretical Sciences and an outstanding library. Although its fellows are involved in teaching and supervision of research, the college has no undergraduates. Date: 30th October 2010. Pendle Panopticon Number of views as of 7th July 2019 = 1100. This is "Atom", the Pendle Panopticon, part of a "visionary scheme to create a unique series of 21st century landmarks across East Lancashire... as symbols of the renaissance of the area". Obviously the lunatics are no longer confined to the asylum and have infiltrated Lancashire County Council, whose idea it was "to encourage a wider public to discover Wycoller and from there to go on and explore the delights of the surrounding countryside". An admirable aim chaps, but perhaps a few brochures would have done the trick! Old Harry Number of views as of 22nd April 2019 = 1330. Old Harry Rocks are situated on the Dorset coast between Studland and Swanage. They mark the eastern end of the "Jurassic Coast" World Heritage Site, stretching from here to East Devon, demonstrating a rich geological history going back 185 million years. The chalk stack on the right is I believe Old Harry himself, though there does seem to be some disagreement about this. The name 'Old Harry' may be a synonym for the devil, or it could be that the rocks were named after a famous Poole pirate, Harry Paye, who used to store his contraband nearby. River Coln Number of views as of 3rd September 2018 = 1130. A lone tree by the River Coln, flowing between the Cotswold villages of Coln St Aldwyns and Bibury, Gloucestershire, England. Date: 8th April 2012.

The Tea House, Compton Acres Number of views as of 18th July 2018 = 1380. Another shot of the Tea House in the Japanese Garden at Compton Acres, Poole, Dorset, England. Compton Acres was laid out in 1924, in a Victorian mixed style design with seven distinct gardens to wander around and enjoy, including the fine Japanese and Italian Gardens. The Japanese garden is superbly planted with and maintained, with stepping stones and bridges crossing the pond, where large koi swim close to the surface. Date: 8th May 2010. Swyre Head Number of views as of 8th April 2018 = 1280. The massive chalk cliffs of Swyre Head, west of Lulworth Cove along Dorset's Jurrasic Coast in the south of England. This shot is taken from Bat's Head, looking eastwards. Beyond Swyre Head, the rock formation jutting into the ocean is Durdle Door. Beyond lies Lulworth and on the horizon St Alban's Head. Lundy Sunset Number of views as of 29th June 2018 = 1075. Lundy Island is the largest island in the Bristol Channel, lying 12 miles off the coast of North Devon, England. Three miles long and less than a mile wide, with fewer than 50 inhabitants, the whole island has been designated as an SSSI (Site of Special, Scientific Interest) and is managed by the Landmark Trust on behalf of the National Trust. This shot was taken from the village of Mortehoe, between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. Date: 14th September 2013.

St Mary's Fairford Number of views as of 26th March 2016 = 1000. The parish church of St Mary in the small Cotswold town of Fairford, South Gloucestershire, England. There has been a church at Fairford since at least 1125, but little of this early building now remains, a few fragments of it being incorporated into the magnificent Late Perpendicular church that can be seen today (left). St Mary's is one of several so-called 'wool churches' in the Cotswolds, built from the proceeds acquired from the successful wool and cloth industries of mediaeval times. The church was consecrated in June 1497 and is said to house the most complete set of mediaeval stained and painted glass windows in the country. Date: 21st March 2010.

The Peerless Princess Tammy Number of views as of 22nd April 2019 = 1575. This Peerless Traction Engine 'Princess Tammy' was built in the USA in 1895 by the Geiser Manufacturing Company of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. This engine is believed to be the only one of its kind in the UK. Lovingly restored to full working order over the last 7 years by the current owner. Pictured at the Bournemouth & Poole Preservation Club's annual Steam & Vehicle Show at Canford Park Arena, Poole, Dorset, England. Date: 20th June 2010.

Exeter Quay Number of views as of 29th August 2018 = 1000. Dating back 2000 years or more, the historic quayside by the River Exe in the city of Exeter (Devon, England) has seen many changes over the centuries. Exeter's wealth came from the woollen trade which peaked in the mid 18th century. Cloth woven in the area was loaded onto ships on the quay and transported all over the world. Nowadays the quay offers relative peace and quiet, just 5 minutes walk away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Date: 8th December 2012.

Campanile San Marco and Doge's Palace, Venice Number of views as of 23rd June 2016 = 1300. St Mark's Campanile, the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, is located in a corner of St Mark's square and is a recognizable symbol of the city. The tower is 98.6 meters tall, and is capped by a pyramidal spire, at the top of which sits a golden weathervane in the form of the archangel Gabriel. The campanile reached its present form in 1514. As it stands today, however, the tower is a reconstruction, completed in 1912 after the collapse of 1902. The Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale di Venezia) was the residence of the Doge of Venice. Lulworth Castle Reprised Number of views as of 4th December 2017 = 1100. A third (and final?) shot of Lulworth Castle (Dorset, England), this time taken from the south-west corner of the grounds and showing three of the castle's four turrets. Rebuilding of the castle (following a disastrous fire in 1929) was part funded by English Heritage. More information on the history of the castle can be found here. Date: 6th May 2013.

Preserved On Disk Number of views as of 26th February 2018 = 1160. A month on from St Valentine's Day, and sadly the subjects of this shot have now been consigned to the rubbish bin. Fortunately, they were preserved on disk! Hope you like them. Date: 19th February 2010.

*Seil Island* Number of views as of 4th April 2018 = 1240. This shot was taken from just outside the former slate-mining village of Ellenabeich, the main settlement on the Island of Seil. Seil is a small island on the east side of the Firth of Lorn, 10-12 miles south-west of Oban, Argyll, Scotland. Seil has been linked to the Scottish mainland since 1792 when Thomas Telford's Clachan Bridge (otherwise known as the Bridge Over the Atlantic) was built. The slate quarry at Ellenabeich was started by the Campbells of Breadalbane in 1745, and by 1842 new steam powered pumps meant that quarrying could take place to a depth of 250ft below sea level, in a vast pit separated from the sea by just a narrow strip of rock. Setley Pond Number of views as of 29th February 2016 = 1100. A New Forest pony enjoying some fresh, green shoots at Setley Pond in the New Forest (Hampshire, England) between the towns of Brockenhurst and Sway. Originally a royal hunting park, the New Forest was created by King William the First in 1079, so it isn't really new at all. In 2005 however, it became England's 8th National Park. Roughly 90 per cent of the 225 square miles of Forest land is still owned by the crown, but is managed by the Forestry Commission. Occupiers of land in the New Forest are granted commoner's rights allowing their ponies, donkeys and cattle to roam & graze freely on the open heathland and some woodland areas. White Nothe from Bat's Head Number of views as of 29th August 2018 = 1050. A shot taken looking west towards White Nothe from a vantage point at Bat's Head on Dorset's Jurassic Coast in the south of England. White Nothe lies between Durdle Door and Ringstead Bay. Date: 12th December 2010.

St Mary's Church, Brownsea Island Number of views as of 18th March 2016 = 1000. Completed in 1854, St Mary's church on Brownsea Island (near Poole, Dorset, England) was funded by William Waugh, a former Colonel in the British Army, who purchased the island a couple of years earlier for £13,000. Waugh was also responsible for building a pottery works on the island which once employed more than 200 people, and for the construction of the now abandoned village of Maryland on the western shores of the island. The church was named for Waugh's wife Mary. Brownsea Island has been owned and managed by the National Trust since 1962 and is open to visitors during the months of April to September. St Mary's however is owned by the Church of England...
