A quiet little corner of Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland. This little slice of greenery is sandwiched between Market Street and the railway tracks leading into Waverley Station. Towering over the gardens on the right is the Bank of Scotland Building at the Mound. It has been years since it got cold enough for long enough in Lowland Scotland for the rivers and lochs to freeze enough for ice skating. But not to worry, it is still possible to ice skate in the open air on the very popular Ice Rink in Edinburgh's East Princes Street Gardens. The rink is built every year as part of the Edinburgh Christmas fair.

One of Edinburgh's most popular tourist attractions, the Floral Clock in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland, next to the Mound. Commissioned on the 10th June, 1903, this is the oldest floral clock in the world. It is seasonally replanted in a topical design with around 35,000 colourful plants to commemorate special occassions. This year the design commemorates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Territorial Army. The clock is 3.5m (12 feet) in diameter and the hands, which are driven by an electric motor, weigh more than 60kg (130 lbs). The electrically-driven mechanism replaced a clock-work motor in 1973, which had required to be wound daily. There is also a cuckoo which calls each hour.

This monument to Sir Walter Scott is located on Princes Street, New Town, Edinburgh, Scotland. It was built during 1836-46. The architect was George Meikle Kemp (1795-1844), a joiner who entered the competition under a pseudonym to avoid prejudice; the joiner/architect sadly fell into the Union Canal in the fog and drowned before the work was completed. Ok, I admit it, this image is inspired by Chris Clark's wonderful image Tree of Light. I even pinched his title, aren’t I awful - hehe. Taken in Princes Street Gardens during the very enjoyable redbubble meet in Edinburgh, Scotland on 26th April 09. It was a great day out with a bunch of very talented photographers. Chris was the one who spotted the light around this little tree in the park with the imposing bulk of Edinburgh Castle towering above it. Various coloured Primulas in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. Primula is a genus of 400–500 species of low-growing herbs in the family Primulaceae. They include primrose, auricula, cowslip and oxlip. Many species are grown for their ornamental flowers. They are native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere, south into tropical mountains in Ethiopia, Indonesia and New Guinea, and in temperate southern South America. Perennial primulas bloom mostly during the spring; their flowers can be purple, yellow, red, pink, or white. Generally, they prefer filtered sunlight. Many species are adapted to alpine climates. The word primula is the Latin feminine diminutive of primus, meaning first (prime).

This statue is beside Princes Street in West Princes Street Gardens, opposite the junction with Frederick Street. It commemorates the Royal Scots Greys who left Edinburgh in 1899 to fight in the South African War. It was unveiled by Lord Rosebery on 16 November 1906
